CA: The Winter Soldier Review

I didn’t start watching the Marvel Cinematic Universe until 2012 when Avengers released in theaters. Captain America: The Winter Soldier was the 2nd film in the MCU that I watched in theaters. I’m writing this review now because TWS released on April 4 (2014)! Happy Release Date/Anniversary to Captain America: The Winter Soldier!
TWS is a gritty, epic masterpiece filled with hand-to-hand fight scenes; it’s dark & has a superb storyline.
Sebastian Stan is the perfect (and only) actor that could portray the character of Bucky Barnes & The Winter Soldier. You see confusion, sadness, & anger all without The Winter Soldier/Bucky speaking. The dialogue is sparse with the characters, but it’s ideal for these characters. Bucky Barnes (after being a victim of Hydra) & The Winter Soldier are more of observers than anything else. It’s how I‘ve always looked at it.
I remember reading somewhere as well as watching interviews that Sebastian had read the comics. Stan thoroughly knows/loves the character and that makes all the difference. He is an awe-inspiring actor; I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every film/television show (I’m Not Here, The Destroyer, The Martian, The Last Full Measure, The Bronze, & Once Upon A Time) of his that I’ve watched.
I confess that I didn’t watch CA: The First Avenger before watching CA: TWS. Now? I promise that I’ve watched these movies so much that don’t know how many times I’ve watched them.
I love the quote, “who the hell is Bucky?” It’s my favorite Winter Soldier quote and it is a memorable one. I honestly didn’t know and asked myself this while watching it in theaters.
This film introduced the character of Sam Wilson/The Falcon. Anthony Mackie is an excellent actor; I first saw him in What’s Your Number? & Gangster Squad. Anthony Mackie is the ideal choice for Sam Wilson/The Falcon.
I absolutely love the character of Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow; I wanted to see more of the character with all of her badassery plus I’ve read some of The Winter Soldier/Black Widow comics (aka Winter Widow). I can’t wait for Black Widow to release in November 2020; I’ve wanted an origin/solo film of BW since Avengers.
I couldn’t imagine any other actors portraying these characters as well as Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Scarlett Johansson, & Chris Evans. The entire cast & crew were all amazing in creating this film.
The film score that Henry Jackson composed will always be brilliant; I listen to it every night at work.
I only have two issues with the film; it needed more Winter Soldier scenes & (after reading the comics) I wanted to see more of a Winter Widow team; I would have liked to see either a friendship or romantic relationship within the MCU.
I’m extremely excited for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier to release; I can’t wait to see more of Bucky and Sam. I’m not exactly sure when it will release on Disney +. As much as we all aren’t fans of the production delays, I look at it as every individual is striving to stay safe. I’ll just rewatch CA: The Winter Soldier until then!
I have two favorite superhero movies; Captain America: The Winter Soldier & The Dark Knight. I can’t choose one over the other because TWS & TDK are perfect films.
