Dexter: New Blood was the TV Mini Series that we didn’t know we needed.

I loved the ending of the original series. The symbolism used in Remember the Monsters was perfect; the story & performances were superb. The end was left with loose ends though.

I absolutely loved each DNB episode. My sister doesn’t watch much tv at all; she watched all of Dexter: New Blood with me. The Family Business is my favorite of DNB. I never thought there’d be a more macabre serial killer than The Trinity Killer, but Kurt Caldwell took that trophy (pun definitely intended, haha). I’ve always seen Dexter as the anti-heroic protagonist. As I watched him cut up Kurt as Harrison watched, I saw Dexter in a new, gruesome light. Even though Dexter always killed the bad guys, he was still a serial killer.

It was one of the most mind-blowing episodes I’ve ever watched. I believe that the writers gave a new perspective on Dexter to prepare the fans for the finale.

Harrison does show “dark tendencies.” The difference? Harrison wants to be normal & doesn’t want to feed his Dark Passenger.

There’s one camera angle where it shows Harrison in the sunlight. I believe the scene is depicting that Harrison is the light and Dexter is the darkness. I’m not sure if this was random or purposely filmed by the cinematographer/directed by Marcos Siega. The cinematography was epic in this scene.

No matter if it had been FBI agents, Agent Lundy, Miami Metro Homicide, or Iron Lake’s Chief of Police Angela Bishop, Dexter getting caught was inevitable.

My only objection to this was that it was said that the Bay Harbor Butcher used Ketamine. Jumping back to Season 2, Dexter injected his victims with M99. He used an alias of “Patrick Bateman, MD” because the medicine could only be purchased with a DEA license.

Dexter killed Sergeant Logan; he killed an innocent & there’s no turning back from that. Dexter did mistakenly killed an innocent in the original series, but it was a different scenario. Dexter was freaking out & acted like a caged animal. Dexter had become a loose cannon. His Dark Passenger had taken over. Who knows who else Dexter would have killed to get away/get to Harrison.

Harrison killing Dexter is a difficult scene to watch; it was the only way though. Dexter wouldn’t want to be extradited to Florida for the death penalty. Dexter never wanted to get caught. Dexter did want to set Harrison free from the darkness & Dexter (even if it meant Harrison had to kill Dexter).

Dexter sent Hannah a letter that stated, “let me die so my son can live.” There was no way Harrison could have had a “normal” life if Dexter was around. Dexter realized this in the end (& Dexter didn’t want to live without Harrison).

I do feel like the finale was rushed; I would have loved to have seen Batista’s, Quinn’s, Matthews,’ & Masuka’s reactions to Dexter still be alive & being the Bay Harbor Butcher. Maybe even Cody and Astor seeing it plastered all over the news.I would have liked to have known who Masuka was marrying as well! Haha, these are only a fan’s wishes.

Dexter is one of my all-time favorite tv shows; I never thought there would be a limited series to complete the story. I am thankful we got the closure for this killer show.

The performances of Michael C. Hall, Jack Alcott, Julia Jones, Johnny Sequoyah, Alano Miller, Jennifer Carpenter, Clancy Brown, Jamie Chung, David Zayas, & so many more were magnificent.

Michael C. Hall’s performance as Dexter is one of the greatest performances I’ve ever witnessed.

I would like to thank the cast and crew of Dexter & Dexter: New Blood for two epic television series’! Thank you, Scott Reynolds, Marcos Siega, Clyde Phillips, Sanford Bookstaver, and to Showtime as well!
